Aberdovey Golf Club

QUALIFICATION

A player must be:

An Amateur as defined by the Rules of Amateur status as approved by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
Eligible to play in the Amateur Championship of his Country (exclusive of handicap).

 FORM OF PLAY

·         A match is played between the teams of the Home Unions.

·         A game is played between members of the team.

·         Matches shall be played on three consecutive days.

·         Each team to consist of seven players and the format of each match will be:-

·         Three foursomes games in the morning and six singles games in the afternoon.

·         Each game shall consist of 18 holes. One point shall be scored for a win in                        each game in foursomes and singles, and half a point shall be scored by each side for a halved game.

·         The team with the most points from the games in a match will be awarded: one point for a win, half a point for a drawn match and nil points for a lost match.

 DRAW

A draw has been made for the first day’s play based on the results of the 2003 matches:-
Wales               v            Scotland
Ireland               v            Ireland

 

On day 2, the winner of Match 1 will play the losers of Match 2, and the winner of Match 2 will play the losers of Match 1. In the event of a match ending in a draw on Day 1, the decision will be made by drawing lots.

 

On Day 3 the teams who have not played each other on Days 1 or 2 will meet.
Draw sheets will be distributed by the Welsh Golf Union

 

TIES

The winning country shall be the country with the highest number of match points.  In the event of an overall tie on match points, the result shall be determined in sequence upon:

 

a)       The overall total of game points.  

b)   The individual match result between the two countries. 

 

Finally, if a tie still exists the trophy shall be shared*.  To determine the order of play for the following year between the two winning teams, the team that was higher placed in the previous year shall have precedence.

ORDER OF PLAY

Team Captains must notify the Welsh Golfing Union Championship Staff of the order of play for the foursomes and singles by the following times:

 Day 1 (Tuesday games):

4:00pm Monday 27th September

 Day 2 (Wednesday games):

30 minutes after the close of play on Tuesday 28th September

 Day 3 (Thursday games):

30 minutes after the close of play on Wednesday 29th September

 COMMITTEE

The match will be run under the auspices of the Committee comprising Welsh Golfing Union personnel who reserve the right to amend the Conditions of Play and make a decision in equity if it is impossible to complete a game or series of games in accordance with the Rules of Golf.

 RULES OF GOLF

Matches shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and the local rules as laid down by the Committee.

 

If a player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time he shall be penalised loss of first hole – Rule 6-3(a). After five minutes the player will be disqualified and the opposing side awarded the game.

 

Each side may appoint a Team Captain as the one person who may give advice to a player in addition to his caddie or partner (Rule 8-1) except that he may not, unless playing, stand on the putting green or point out a line of putt. A Team Captain, while playing in the competition, may only give advice to his foursomes partner.

 

Pace of Play – The Welsh Golfing Union employ the following Local Rule:

A player shall not play any practice stroke on or near the putting green of the hole last played.  If a practice stroke is played on or near the putting green of the hole last played, the player shall incur a penalty of loss of hole at the next hole, except that in the case of the last hole of the round, he incurs the penalty at that hole.

 Strokes made in continuing the play of a hole, the result of which has been decided, are not practice strokes
