ZAC GOULD WINS JUNIOR ORDER OF MERIT Zac
Gould of the Vale of Glamorgan has won the Welsh Golfing Union Junior Order of
Merit. Gould was always near or at the top of the table from the beginning of
the season and with his excellent win at the St David’s Gold Cross he made
life difficult for the chasing pack. In addition Zac won the European Young
Masters in Murhof, Austria was undefeated in the Boys Home Internationals and
has recently been selected to represent Great Britain & Ireland in the
Jacques Leglise Trophy at Nairn and will represent Europe in the Junior Ryder
Cup in the USA in September. At
the Boys Amateur Championship, Peter Williams from Llantrisant & Pontyclun
reached the last 16 before losing out to Oliver Fisher. Lee Lewis the South
Wales Champion reached the last 32 along with Marc Lewis from Borth &

JONES – WELSH BOYS CHAMPION
Matthew
Jones of Pontypridd won the Welsh Boys Championship at Cardigan defeating Lee
Lewis of the Gower. Jones gained revenge over Lewis who had beaten the
Pontypridd man in the South Wales Boys final at Llandrindod Wells the previous
week. Jones was also runner up in the Welsh Boys Stroke Play that was won by Lee
Jones of Conwy (Caernarvonshire) with a total of 142 strokes, level par. Zac
Gould continued his excellent run of form by winning the European Young Masters
in Murhof, Austria. Gould remains at the top of the Welsh Golfing Union Junior
Order of Merit despite not competing at Carmarthen. The next event is the Boys Amateur Championship at Conwy (Caernarvonshire) Golf Club from 9 – 14 August 2004.
GOULD VICTORIOUS AT GOLD CROSS Following
his excellent win at the St David’s Gold Cross, Zac Gould from the Vale of
Glamorgan has opened a commanding lead in the Welsh Golfing Union Junior Order
of Merit. At
the South Wales Boys Open Stoke play at Llandrindod Wells, Pedro Figueiredo of
Portugal was the winner beating Monmouthshire’s Richard Merchant into second
place by one stroke. Mark
Trow came third and remains in 2nd place on the Order of Merit with
Newport’s Joe Vickery claiming 4th place. The next event is the Welsh Boys Championship at Carmarthen from 21-23 July.

14TH AT TUCKER Matthew
Jones from Pontypridd closed with rounds of 74 and 67 to finish in a tie for 14th
at the Tucker Trophy over the weekend. This performance earns Jones 17.25 points
and puts him in 11th place on the Junior Order of Merit. Zac
Gould remains in 1st position just ahead of Llanymynech’s Mark Trow. The next event is the St David’s Gold Cross at Royal St David’s Golf Club, Harlech on 17/18 July 2004.

BACK ON TOP Zac
Gould from the Vale of Glamorgan has moved back to the top of the Welsh Golfing
Union Junior Order of Merit after finishing in a tie for 18th place
at the Welsh Open Stroke Play at Royal Porthcawl over the weekend. Gould
was the only Welsh junior to make the cut at Royal Porthcawl and collects 50
Order of Merit points giving him a slender lead over Llanymynech’s Mark Trow.
Gould scores of 75, 77, 73 and 78
were consistent in a strong wind that blew off the sea for the majority of the
weekend.
The next event is the Tucker Trophy at the Newport and Whitchurch Golf Clubs on 10/11 July 2004.

INCREASES LEAS Mark
Trow from Llanymynech has increased his lead at the top of the Welsh Golfing
Union Junior Order of Merit after sharing 5th place at the Welsh Open Youths
Championship. James
Thomas from St Mellons was the best Welsh player at the Open Youths and moves
from 14th to 4th in the Order of Merit.
At the Aberconwy Trophy James Brute from Old Colwyn came a respectable 14th and moves up two places from 9th to 8th. The next event is the Welsh Open Stroke Play Championship at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club from 18th to 20th June.

WINS NORTH WALES OPEN Mark
Trow from Llanymynech won his first Junior Order of Merit title at the weekend
when he held off the challenge of Abergele’s Adam Runcie. Another
promising performance came from Morriston’s James Frazer who finished in third
place five strokes behind Runcie. Trow
goes to the top of the Welsh Golfing Union Junior Order of Merit after
collecting 100 points for the win at Rhuddlan and Abergele.
Zac Gould and Adam Runcie lie in 2nd and third spots
respectively on the table. The next event is the Welsh Open Youths Championship at the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club on 29th/30th May.

ON TOP
Zac Gould from the Vale of Glamorgan went into the sole lead of the Welsh Golfing Union Junior Order of Merit after finishing in a tie for 12th place at the Trubshaw Cup. Lee Lewis of the Gower also had a creditable performance at the Trubshaw by finishing in joint 15th place.
At
the Peter McEvoy Trophy, Adam Runcie from Abergele was the only Welsh player to
survive the halving cut and finished in a tie for 22nd spot.
The next event is the Clwyd Open at Wrexham & Prestatyn Golf Clubs on 8th/9th May.
GREAT
FINISH BY GOULD Zac
Gould from the Vale of Glamorgan once again underlined his undoubted potential
by claiming 6th place at the Duncan Putter over the Easter Weekend.
Gould final day scores of 69 and 68 moved him from a share of 36th
overnight into 6th and therefore collects 50 Welsh Golfing Union
Junior Order of Merit points. Phil
Smith from Dewstow was the only other Junior to make the cut and collects 30
Junior Order of Merit points. As
a result of these performances Gould joins Anglesey’s David Lovell at the top
of the table while Smith moves into 3rd place.. The next event is the Peter McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath Golf Club on 14/15 April 2004 and then followed by the Trubshaw Cup at Tenby and Ashburnham on 24/25 April.
FAST START FOR LOVELL
David Lovell from Anglesey won the Central Wales
Boys at the weekend and now leads the Welsh Golfing Union Junior Order of Merit
having collected 50 points fro his victory.
Lovell’s scores of 69 at Borth & Ynyslas
and 73 at Aberdovey ensured a two stroke victory over his closest challenger
Matthew Evans from Rotherham.
There were some promising early season
performances from Adam Runcie who shared third spot with local favourite Marc
Lewis.
