FINAL POSITIONS ON THE 1999 KONICA ORDER OF MERIT GRIFFITHS TOPPLES MATTHEWS Matthew Griffiths removed Neil Matthews from the top position in the Konica Order of Merit by claiming the Welsh Amateur title at Tenby over the weekend. Matthews had led the merit table since April's Trubshaw Cup but had to give way to Griffiths after a superb display of all round golf at Tenby. Throughout the week Griffiths showed great nerve and skill in some extremely difficult games. After edging home against David Price of Bargoed 1 up he overcome the challenge of Creigiau's Craig Williams by 3/2 and disposed of Robert Narduzzo of Tredegar Park by 5/4. In the semi final Matthew defeated Emyr Jones the 1985 Champion 2/1. Matthew has come close in previous years to gaining his Senior International cap was now guaranteed his place. The morning round of the final was extremely close with Matthew holding a one hole advantage. The afternoon was all Griffiths and he eventually ran out a 7/6 winner against the valiant Richard Brookman. The top seven players on the Konica Order of Merit gained places in the Home International team along with the wild cards of Nigel Edwards, David Price, Stuart Roberts and Kyron Sullivan.
