EUROPEAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wales’s finest moment in golfing history came in the Czech Republic in June 1993, when the team of Craig Evans, Bradley Dredge, Richard Dinsdale, Calvin O’Carroll, Richard Johnson and Mike Macara and non-playing captain John Jermine, defeated England in the final of the European Team Championships. Fittingly it was Macara who holed the winning putt that lead to great scenes of jubilation and prompted England’s Captain Peter McEvoy to say:

"It was the Welsh players around whom this Championship revolved. Former International John Jermine, the Welsh Captain, was an inspiration to the best six golfers ever to leave Wales as he described his team and few could argue with him as they secured third place in qualifying and then marched ceremoniously on to defeat Ireland, Sweden and England on the way to victory. The emotion on the last green among the Welsh and their singing of the national anthem at the closing ceremonies are scenes I shall never forget."

Following on from this great victory came the win at the 1998 European Youth Team Championships at Royal Waterloo Golf Club near Brussels.
