The
first Steps to find the "Wee Wonders" of junior golf in Wales will
take place at various venues across the country from April, culminating in a
Welsh Final at The Celtic Manor Resort in July. Director
of the PGA Wee Wonders Open Championship Alasdair Good said, "I am
delighted by the response to the PGA Wee Wonders Open Golf Championship in
Wales and look forward to working with a variety of projects to encourage more
young people into golf. The
spread of qualifying events is particularly pleasing this year as 8
competitions have been arranged right across Wales". Supported by the PGA, Golf Foundation and Golf Development Wales, players aged 5 to 12 years take 36 shots to see how far they can progress around a 9-hole par 3 course. A boy and girl winner from each of 4 age group categories will then progress through to the Welsh final hosted by The Celtic Manor Resort. The winners here will then represent Wales at the Grand Final at Foxhills Golf and Country Club in Surrey. However,
the ethos behind the event is about having fun and for many of the young
players it will be their first outing in a competition on a golf course.
Commenting on the event, Chairman of Golf Development Wales, Andy
Morgan said: "The PGA Wee Wonders Championship will provide a
welcome and friendly opportunity for the participants in various coaching
programmes to try their new skills in a fun golf competition.
Wales has doubled the number of events being run this year and is
grateful to all the host venues for their support to junior golf”. For

Information on last year's Events is set out below:- The two Regional qualifiers held in Wales were at Bryn
Morfydd Golf Club, North Wales and Began
Park Golf Centre, South Wales. Warm thanks are due to Richard Hughes and the two venues. Without their generous assistance the children would not have been
able to enjoy, what was for them, the new experience of competitive golf. Over 80 children took part in both events and the results are listed on the wee wonder website www.wee-wonders.co.uk Photographs from the Began Park event on 16 June are shown below:-
